Third Party Verification Requests

Information for Third-Party Verifiers

Please read the following before requesting an education verification:

The Office of the University Registrar (OUR) does not manage or maintain records of the following programs:

  • Coursera Certificate Programs
  • Penn Medicine Graduate Medical Education (GME) Residency or Training Programs
  • Perelman School of Medicine, Medical Doctor (MD) Program
  • Wharton Executive Education Certificate Programs

Verification Process: Penn has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) to provide enrollment and degree verifications. All third-party education verifications must go through the NSC.

Instructions for Special Investigators and US Government Employees: Please refer to the "Request an Education Verification for Special Investigators" section on this page for specific information and instructions.

Request Current Enrollment Information

Through EnrollmentVerify via the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC): EnrollmentVerify is used to confirm that a student is currently enrolled in a postsecondary institution.

Before placing an EnrollmentVerify request, please note:

  • Submit a current enrollment request for students who are currently or continuously enrolled. Do not submit a degree or attendance request for students who have not yet earned a degree, as this will cause delays.
  • Include all personally identifiable information (DOB, SSN, and former names) provided by the student in a single request. Ensure you select the correct degree level.
  • Incorrect data will result in a rejection of the request.
  • If a student or alum has opted out of FERPA, their consent must be provided to the NSC before any enrollment information can be released.

Request Degrees & Attendance Information

Through DegreeVerify via the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC): DegreeVerify is used to confirm that a student has received one or more degrees from, or attended, a postsecondary institution.

Before placing a DegreeVerify request, please note:

  • Check the graduation date of the student or alum before placing an order. If the person is expected to graduate on a future date, submit an EnrollmentVerify request instead.
  • Degrees are conferred three times a year in May, August, and December. The degree checkout process can take up to 30 days from the end of the term to complete.
  • Records of alumni prior to Fall 1988 require longer research time.
  • Include all personally identifiable information (DOB, SSN, and former names) provided by the student or alum in a single request. Ensure you select the correct degree level.
  • Incorrect data will result in a rejection of the request.
  • If a student or alum has opted out of FERPA, their consent must be provided to the NSC before any enrollment information can be released.

Request an Education Verification for Special Investigators

We strongly encourage Special Investigators and other government employees to use DoD Safe when requesting transcripts. DoD Safe links should be sent to [email protected]. Please do not email release forms directly, as they may contain Personal Identifiable Information (PII) such as Social Security Numbers (SSN).

If your unit does not use DoD Safe, please email [email protected] for support.

Please note: Consent to release forms must be signed and dated by the student or alum within one year of when the request is submitted to Penn.
